about

Adrian T. Bell, a British musician based in Prague, formerly the frontman of postpunk band The Prostitutes, releases his third solo album, simply called Navigator, on the 4th of September. It was created in collaboration with American Grammy award winning music producer Sylvia Massy, who collaborated with musicians like Johnny Cash, Prince, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. The album originated in the spring of this year in the famous La Fabrique Studio in Saint-Remy de Provence and the Faust Studios in Prague.

After the two solo albums Different World (Apollo Award for the Album of 2014) and Night and Day, Adrian T. Bell and his band, The Sleeper Agents, give us an album that tells of the dilemmas of the contemporary man in the modern world. A man who would like to conquer or even save the world, but the reality of everyday life offers the routine to paying bills and permanently unclogging pipes and makes him want to escape the world instead. "My grandfather worked as a policeman during The Blitz in London and was busy working to save lives," says Adrian. "I went to the Navy at the age of sixteen, and travelled the world.” Such opportunities for fulfilling the male-minded self-realization are now ever more difficult in the reality of the European metropolis. Navigator adresses such thoughts and dilemmas and perhaps offers a moment of escapism. Every one of us dreams of doing something different and we as “sleeper agents” are waiting for that moment when one day we hear the phone ring and are given an order to perform some task that will truly fullfill us.

Collaboration with a new music producer has brought new experiences. Sylvia Massy says that the is trying to provide the artists she produces with a framework in which a masterpiece can stand out better. "Sylvia has a lot of ideas and very unconventional sound experiments, but the resulting sound preserves the authenticity of the demo recordings. That's exactly what I wanted, "Adrian says. "When I learned that Sylvia, a renowned and highly sought-after producer, agreed to my collaboration offer in January, it took me a while to believe it. Sylvia gave me the condition that I must write one song each day. And so I composed, under pressure, to achieve the best results. Most of those demo recordings eventually hit the record. "

The result is nine strong tracks, of which at least seven have the potential of a single. The genre is not clearly defined, but overall the album has a cinematic quality as if we were thrown into an adventure with elements of Motown, funk, pop, rock and country. The album takes its name from the title track Navigator, a song that was recorded in the studio and beyond - two Prague's churches are featured on it - the pipe organs are from Saint Salvatore and the bells from the Saint Vitus Cathedral.

Track Name: Back In Town
Back In Town

So I hadn’t seen you in a long time
We’d split up and you had gone to New York
On some wild adventure with that artist What’s his name ?

I ended up on the boat not knowing where I was going.
I had couple of girlfriends in but it wasn’t the same
I was having a few drinks with some friends when I heard your name
Well I heard that you were back in town.
Yeah I heard that you were back in town.
Yeah I heard that you were back in town.
Well my head was spinning around

My heart jumped a beat but I didn’t say anything at all

Well I heard that you were back in town.
Well I heard you were back in town.
Then I heard you were back in town.
Well my head was just a spinning around

I try to play it cool but you know what it’s like
I’m such a fool for love
I try to play it cool but you know what it’s like
I’m such a fool for love
I try to play it cool but you know what it’s like
I’m such a fool for love
I try to play it cool but you know what it’s like
I’m such a fool for love

I was having a good time with my friends just drinking
maybe a little too much
Then I saw you walk in with your friends.
You were laughing
Then you looked at me and whispered
I miss you
Bitch

Well I heard you were back in town.
Well I heard you were back in town.
Well I heard you were back in town.
Well my head was spinning around
Track Name: Sleeper Agent
Sleeper Agent
I’m hiding in the shadows
Invisible in my disguise
I’m lying in wait
Ready for to act
Planning my escape
Mind clandestine
You pass me on the street
You can’t tell
I live a double life

You think he’s an angel
But he’s really a stranger
He moves like a ninja
And his middle name’s danger

You’re former life will self-destruct in
Five, four, three, two,

One day soon
You’ll find out
I’m not who I say I am
The dossier from the heart said
Leave this life behind
I’ve got one chance
And now’s the time
To peel off the mask
And finally reveal
Who I am

You think he’s a saint but he’s really a stranger
He moves through the shadows
And his middle name’s danger

Waiting for so long
Just to bang the drum
The mission started
I know I’m not the only one
I know that nothing’s going to stop me
I cannot fail
Because I’ve been waiting
in the shadows
for too long
You think he’s an angel
But he’s really a stranger
He moves like a ninja
And his middle name’s danger
I’m the sleeper agent
Track Name: Rule The World
Mr Cat broke from hell
Rules the world with his own free will
Lives his life from day to day
Nothing gets in his goddam way

What he paid for the price of love
He lost his faith in God above
He met a girl on the road today
It was dynamite

Black mustang, roaring gun
A red sunrise, well kingdom come
Three cigarettes to start the day
Cassette deck loaded
He just pressed play

The wind is a blowing heart
Tearing his mind apart
A one handed joint
Sun drenched highway
And not a care in the world he says

Partners in crime fit like a glove
Riding the wind with his onetime love
Roadkill behind. The vultures above.

la la la la la

Cactus trail like a boulevard
Open a pack pull out a card
Kissing the lips of a phantom babe
Rattlesnake hum on a poisoned grave

The heat and the dust just now
Makes them feel real somehow
They make love down a dusty lane
The wheels them spinning tumble weed

Partners in crime fit like a glove
Riding the wind with his onetime love
Road kill behind. The vultures above.

Hiding out in this grim motel
Shake me down better off in hell
Woke up sweating in the night
Red lights flashing morning light

Never thought I’d see the light
Can’t sleep at night because it’s dynamite
Never thought I’d break away

Never thought I’d break away
From mundane humdrum here you stay
Never thought I’d getaway

Gonna rule rule the world in my own way
Gonna rule rule the world
Gonna make the play
Road kill behind. The vultures above.

Gonna rule rule the world in my own way
Gonna rule the world
Gonna make the play
Track Name: Will I See You Once Again
Will I see you once again

Will I see you once again?
I don't think I’ve had enough of you
Every time you walk away
I would rather that you stayed
Will you be round here tomorrow?
I will greet you on the way
If you lead then I will follow
and release me from this sorrow

You’ll never take me in your arms
Or hold me for a moment
Placate me with your charms
And make me feel important

I am tortured every day
I could call maybe tomorrow
For the fourteenth time I say
You would not answer any way

From a distance I can see you walking past
You think that you’re all your own
There’s a certain grace when you undress at night
Please don’t close the curtains
I’m in love

When will I see you again?
When will I see you again?
When will I see you again?

Will I see you once again?
All the full of photos of you
I took when you were unaware
The pain you put me through
By simply not being there
I don’t know when I will see you again
I know that you don’t care
all my thoughts on you collide
Well here’s a fact
if I can’t have you
then nobody will
When will I see you once again?
Nobody will
Track Name: Call My Name
Call my Name
The graveyard is filling
With men as they drop like flies
The widows are loading
Their shotguns in the night
The children are weeping
as the wolves howl at the moon
Then you call my name
You call my name

The bandits wait in ambush
As the storm clouds fill the night
The screams of their victims
Can be heard for many miles
As nightmarish whispers
Float across the blood red sky
Then you call my name

In the shadows, somethings coming
And you know it will be here soon
The horses have bolted
Your last chance left to ride
You're cornered and desperate
With no place left to hide
Then you call
My name

In the distance
Force of thunder
Sends shudders through the room
And the help that you wanted
Well you know it could be here soon
The light from west comes
Flooding through the gloom
Then you call my name

You call my name
You call my name
You call my name
Track Name: Nail Me Baby
Nail me Baby

I’ve been like this for a million years
working outside in the damn cold air
and all my plans and dreams are gone
when you caught me with your whispered song
You look at me and you softly sigh
as you walk away then make me high
I fall into your arm as you say
three little words that make my day

Nail me baby
Nail me baby
Nail me baby
Nail me down

To lose my friends or to lose my mind
all of this I can leave behind
I’ll risk it all cause the dream’s still mine
I want to go all the way this time
A magnetic force I can’t pull away
The soft whisper in my ears you say
Three little words that a man wants to hear

Nail me baby
Nail me baby
Nail me baby
Nail me down

The wolves the beasts I can take them all
The dirt the pain and the manic world
as long as you look at me and say
Those three words that I want to hear
I cannot refuse when Venus calls
I cannot resist the Siren’s charms
Just whisper softly in my ear

Nail me baby
Nail me baby
Nail me baby
Nail me down
Track Name: Life Sentence
Life Sentence

Mosely was in a corner
After leaving the Grey Bar Hotel
He thought he would get parole
but you know what?
He couldn’t get out
He’s been taking some pills
But that didn’t work too much
And now he’s just walking around the streets
Like his mind’s gone
The Black Dog depression took over
And now he’s just looking for a new beginning
Well it’s difficult for him man, It’s difficult.
He was walking out to the west towards the sunset
and he’d been walking that way for three days
He’s been watching some beggars on the street
trying to get some food from a bin
He doesn’t know how to get fed these days man
So he asked them for some money
They laughed

and he’s looking and he’s looking at these places
where he used to hang out
and where the girls were man
and they’re not there anymore
and there’s an old whore there
and she’s got black eyes
She’s crying and she might have
slept with him at some point
but now she does not recognise him
He’s been gone too long

Anyway he stopped at these traffic lights
and these cops came up to him and they were asking him
What you doing here?
Mosely just ignored them and walked straight through them
They left as quickly with the sirens behind
Then a man walked up to him
and looked at him strangely
And he didn’t notice that the man had pulled a gun
from his pocket and was sticking it in his face
Mosely just looks at him for a minute and says
Hey son do you want to think about this?
Do you know where I have been?
I’ve been 25 years in jail
Do you know what that means?

I’m not giving you my money man
I’m not going inside again
I’m not going to lose my friend
I’m not going to walk out in the big black dawn
I’m not going out for a
You’re not gonna put me down but
You’re not going to take me away from
I’ve spent too long inside
I’m not walking out in the hot dawn
Just put that gun away so
you don’t want to go to that hole

You don’t want to go the hole my friend
You don’t want to walk the road again
The tattoos on your back will bleed you dry
You know there’s no point just getting high
You’re stuck in a cage walking around
Two meter s by two meters around
Heartbeat you’d be out of that place
and you’re making such a big mistake
Yo
just walk away
just walk away
and everything is going to be ok
just walk on by just walk on by
Track Name: Part Of Me
Part of Me Part of you

Here we are human
Fragile and pale in the morning light
Confused and naked we stand
and look up at the stars in wonder

All this is part of me
All this is part of you
All this is part of me
All this is part of me
All this is part of you
All this is part of me

Here we stand
And tremble to the sound of thunder
I feel your pain, it's so insane
The circumstance that drives us under

All this is part of me
All this is part of you
All this is part of me
All this is part of me
All this is part of you
All this is part of me
Track Name: Navigator
Navigator
I’ll steer you through this frightening storm
Of monstrous seas and dreadful skies
Emotional troughs and wind swept highs
I’ll take us through to calmer seas
where clouds will part and sun sublime
And lightest breeze
Calms troubled minds

I’ll point us to the brightest star
It seems so far but light will shine
and leave dark memories far behind

I’ll be the navigator
I’ll be the navigator
I’ll be the navigator
I’ll be the navigator

I’ll hold the wheel
And take the waves
And keep us free from
Shipwrecked shores
And guides us through the maelstrom here

I’ll be the navigator
I’ll be the navigator
I’ll be the navigator
I’ll be the navigator

And as the wind of fate it blows
I’ll trim the sails see how it goes
And take us through the shark filled night
to safer shores

I’ll be the navigator
I’ll be the navigator
I’ll be the navigator
I’ll be the navigator

And as we reach the distant shore
I’ll lay you down in soft white sand
and sail away to troubled lands
goodbye

I’ll be the navigator
I’ll be the navigator
I’ll be the navigator
I’ll be the navigator
